Mama Monday : Behind the Seeds Tour at Epcot

Hi Mamas! Today we are checking out one of many ways that Epcot is educational for you and your children. One of the most informational and educational tours at Walt Disney World is the Behind the Seeds tour at Epcot. Here you will go backstage to explore experimental plant growing techniques. Currently hydroponics, a method of growing plants without soil, is being used for a lot of the plants here. You will get to learn how this works. You will even learn some techniques that you can use at home in your garden. Disney grows a lot of their own vegetables that are served in the restaurants. There’s also a fish and alligator portion of the tour as well. You will see The Land Greenhouses at Epcot. And you will be shown some record breaking crops including a gigantic tomato plant that produces thousands and thousands of tomatoes.

Who can do this tour? It is great for all ages!

How long does it last? One hour

Can strollers and wheelchairs go on the tour? YES! You will be provided a small stroller for children and it is wheelchair accessible. It is a walking tour though so the rest of the family will need to be able to walk.

How much does this tour cost? $18 for age 10 and up and $14 for 3-9. Anyone under 3 is complimentary.

How often is the tour? Every day starting at 10:30 and the last tour is at 4:30.

You go to the desk next to Soarin’ in the Land to sign up. You can also call 407-WDW-TOUR if you prefer to book in advance.

I have personally taken this tour and it is really interesting. I think any age would love this tour because at all ages you will learn something. It moves quickly enough to hold everyone’s attention. One of the fun parts for kids is to look for the veggies that are being grown in the shape of Mickey heads. You will want to definitely take what you learn and apply it at home in your own garden.

Mama Monday : Sweet Treats Tour

Hi Mamas, Today I am taking you on a picture tour of my favorite treat(s) in each park. Come along and let your mouth start to drool!

First stop-Animal Kingdom. Mickey Ice Cream Bars can be found just about everywhere at Walt Disney World. But my favorite place to have one is at Animal Kingdom Park.

This was my oldest son’s very first Mickey Mouse Bar that we let him have all on his own. His little cheeks are full because he couldn’t believe it was ALL his! Take note of those pudgy fingers gripping the ice cream!

Next Stop is Hollywood Studios and there’s just something about that place that makes me want popcorn. I am sure it is all the movie paraphernalia. I especially love the popcorn stands here.

At Epcot I couldn’t choose just one, so you get a bonus. Lefse can be found in Norway. It is a cinnamon sugar potato cake that resembles a tortilla rolled up. They don’t charge nearly enough! I tried to make these one time at home.

And how can you pass up this caramel deliciousness in Germany? I will take one of each please.

My most recent favorite treat can also be found multiple places but I like having one at Magic Kingdom after seeing Wishes-a Mickey Mouse cake pop! I prefer the chocolate covered ones and not the sprinkles or sugar coated ones. The dots at the bottom of the stick let you know what flavor. My personal fave is Red Velvet!

I promise this blog post had zero calories! And when you get to taste them at Disney, you will be walking so much it won’t matter. Enjoy!

Mama Monday : The Wine Stroll at Epcot’s World Showcase part two

We last left off enjoying your World Showcase Wine Walk and I promised to tell you what to do with your kids. Along the way in the World Showcase there are stations called Kidcot Fun Stops.

Some people have dismissed these gems for their kids because it looks like a craft station. It IS a craft station. Why would you want to have your kid stop and make a craft while you are at DISNEY? Simple. Next time you see one stand near the table and just listen to the conversations. These Kidcot Fun Stops have very little to do with the craft for me as a mama and everything to do with the opportunity for my child to interact with someone from that country we are exploring. They talk to the kids and the kids ask questions. It is an incredible learning experience.

And they do color something while they are there. Kids open up more if they are doing an activity with their hands. I think the Kidcot Fun Stops are nothing short of brilliance. And remember that Wine Walk Card? Your child is happy coloring and conversing with someone from another country, grab your wine card, grab your taste of wine, and sit back and soak in watching your child learn without even realizing that’s what they are doing. It really is blissful. If it happens to be extra magic hours, the countries are even peaceful after the crowds clear out from Illuminations. This post had something for the kids but I think the mamas benefit too from this experience. Next week there will be a live post from Walt Disney World and you will find out what I think is a must do for any Mama on a Disney vacation that is six nights or longer.

Mama Monday : Wine Stroll in the World Showcase part one

Welcome to Mama Monday! Disney isn’t all about the kiddos. There is plenty for the Mamas (and dads) to do while at Disney too and I am going to help show them to you!

Our first stop in our Mama Monday series is Epcot. It is one of my favorite parks for the evenings. I find it relaxing. We go hard during the day and come evening we want a nice meal and a drink or two and a stroll through the countries.

To help get you started check out the World Showcase Wine Walk. The above picture is courtesy of our friends over at The Disney Food Blog. It is approximately $20 for six wine tastings, two in each country of France, Italy, and Germany. You can start in any of the three countries and purchase the card there. They will staple the receipt to the card so you don’t lose it. Then taste away. I have started in each of them personally and I like to end in France but it’s your stroll so choose! The tastes really are a nice sized taste but no where near a full glass. It is about a 2 ounce pour of each wine. The wines are set though I have had them sub one out when they ran out. That is not usual though. So overall you are only consuming 12 ounces of wine.

Mamas tend to worry so much about what are the kids doing, how are they, that we can go the entire night and not even realize we are thirsty. Now with the wine walk card, you have bought the card. You are going to use it. You can’t let it go to waste right? I think that is the beauty of it personally. It forces me as the mama to stop, take a breath , and enjoy just a little taste of something adult. Prior to kids, I would get the card as an appetizer so to speak with the wines. Just some little tastes and then I would choose which glass of wine I wanted at each country in addition to my little tastes. If that is more your style, it works too. But I imagine for most mamas the card alone will be a luxury. I mentioned I like to end in France. It is because I do still indulge in a full glass at the end of the evening on our countries stroll. The empty park benches below make a perfect spot to enjoy the wine.

I know what you are thinking, that sounds great and all but what about the kids? They will never let us stroll through the countries.
